Blue Painting is a Minnesota-based painting company specializing in residential and commercial interior/exterior painting services. The company built its reputation on quality craftsmanship and reliable service delivery across a diverse range of projects- from single-room touch-ups to full multi-unit property renovations.
As Blue Painting expanded, the complexity and volume of quote requests increased significantly. Multiple properties required detailed, accurate quotes for jobs that ranged from simple single wall repaints to complex multi-surface projects involving soffits, fascia, trim, power washing, and custom colour specifications across different rooms and units.
Blue Painting had recognized this opportunity early and invested in building a solution. After nearly two years of development and significant financial investment, however, the project had not shipped. SolvedAF was brought in to understand why- and to fix it.

Challenge: Unstructured Product Development & Delivery Breakdown
When SolvedAF engaged with Blue Painting, the core problem was not the product vision; it was the absence of structured product management. The development team had been building without a clear framework for prioritization, scope definition, or delivery. This created a cycle of shifting requirements, unfinished features, and no path to a shippable product.
Challenges included:
-
No product management infrastructure: There were no defined backlogs, sprint cycles, or prioritization frameworks. Development efforts were uncoordinated, with no clear owner of the roadmap.
-
Unclear requirements and scope creep: Feature definitions were vague and frequently changed. Without structured requirements documentation, developers built against moving targets, resulting in rework.
-
Weak front-end design and user experience: The product lacked coherent UX thinking. There were no defined user journeys, and the interface had not been designed with the end user- landlords and painters- in mind.
These challenges resulted in significant sunk cost with no tangible output — and no clear path forward.
Solution: Building a Structured Product Foundation
SolvedAF moved quickly to understand both the business problem and the existing technology before taking action. The goal was not to rebuild from scratch, rather to create the organizational and process conditions under which the existing team could finally ship the product.

-
Cut or deferred non-essential features

Focused development on MVP-critical functionality
Results: Product Delivery, Efficiency & Operational Gains
The SolvedAF engagement enabled Blue Painting what two years of unstructured development had failed to produce: a clear path to shipping.
-
Project unblocked
-
For the first time in two years, the team had a defined roadmap, a working sprint structure, and a realistic timeline to an MVP launch.
-
-
Backlog clarity
-
All development work was captured, prioritized, and scoped — eliminating the ambiguity that had been driving rework and missed effort.
-
-
Improved product quality
-
UX/UI resources introduced coherent user journeys and interface designs, raising the standard of the front-end significantly.
-
-
Reduced waste
-
Scope discipline cut non-essential work from the near-term roadmap, focusing the team's capacity on features that mattered for launch.
-
-
Efficiency gains
-
Average quote generation time dropped from 2-3 days (requiring on-site visit + manual calculation) to under 24 hours using the blue painting digital system.
-
For properties already in the system, quotes could be generated in under 10 minutes by adjusting existing property data.
-
-
Operational improvements
-
Reduced reliance on in-person site visits for routine jobs, freeing painter capacity for actual project work.
-
Standardized pricing logic improved margin consistency and reduced under-pricing risk.

"We initially hired Ashiq as a fractional CIO to manage our IT department, build an IT strategy, and implement solutions to increase efficiencies and scalability across the organization. Due to Ashiq’s exceptional performance and experience as a CPA, he quickly took over our finance department as well. Ashiq revamped our financial planning and analysis processes, improved efficiency, and developed solutions to increase program revenue. Ashiq was also able to bring in team members to help us identify gaps in our data governance processes and actions we need to take to remediate any risks. Ashiq and his team’s ability to quickly understand our needs and drive results has been outstanding. We are very happy with Ashiq and SolvedAF’s services and the positive impact on our organization.
